How to Solve Logical Reasoning Problems

Logical reasoning here means combining two figures to form a third. Learn the rules for adding and subtracting figures (overlap / exclusion).

Solving tips

  • Suspect a pattern where overlaying "left + center" produces the "right" (a union).
  • Keeping only the shared part (intersection) or only one side (exclusive OR) is also typical.
  • Checking the presence of each dot or grid cell one by one makes it reliable.

Worked examples

Example 1Overlay left and center, and the points present in only one of them remain (exclusion). What is the right cell?

Options

A
B
C
D

AnswerC

Points present in both disappear, and points present in only one remain—this is exclusive OR.
